NDP: Rebuilding of Highway 49 is long overdue

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Transportation and Infrastructure Jennifer French (Oshawa) welcomes the Ford government’s long overdue rebuild of Prince Edward County Road 49:

“People in the community have long been concerned about safety on County Road 49,” said French. “After meeting with local leadership and writing to Doug Ford, I’m glad that the Conservatives have finally heard the community and our calls to uphold their provincial responsibility.

“While this news is welcome, it’s also long overdue. Successive Conservative and Liberal governments have downloaded far too much onto municipalities, including Highway 49, which was once a provincial highway. It’s well past time that they remember it is their job to take care of our province’s infrastructure.

“This is just the tip of the iceberg. If the Premier is feeling ready to take on more of what should have always been his responsibility in the first place, I have a list I’d be happy to share with him.”
